Four municipalities in the northeast of Friesland improve electronic services for citizens thanks to Inter Access' WebNext MidOffice Suite
Hilversum, 1 December 2008 – The four Frisian municipalities of Achtkarspelen, Dantumadeel, Dongeradeel and Kollumerland with appurtenances launch four new websites and a shared MidOffice on 1 December.
This way, the four municipalities - united in the Public Cooperation NOFA - are taking electronic services for citizens to the next level. This is being done in the context of the changeover to the Inter Access’ WebNext MidOffice Suite.
Earlier this year, the NOFA municipalities chose Inter Access’ WebNext MidOffice Suite after a public tender (Andez2). With WebNext, Inter Access combines its integrated Frontoffice and MidOffice Suite for electronic services with the open source application Alfresco. Alfresco is document management and workflow software. In addition, this application includes GX Public’s web content management platform GX Webmanager for municipalities. The result is a complete and very well integrated mid-office suite which optimally supports electronic services at the NOFA municipalities. The implementation of the first phase was completed within eight months.
The Inter Access solution allows the NOFA municipalities to further improve (internal and external) services for their citizens. This way, they can provide access to the municipality’s services and information 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The integrated Frontoffice and MidOffice Suite provides an optimal link between the electronic counter and the underlying systems. The Suite also supports the execution of all related administrative processes via Alfresco, an innovative open source DMS and WFM module.
Thanks to the NOFA cooperation, the municipalities are able to share not only the costs of the system, but also the functionality. For example, Inter Access delivers the WebNext software as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and, in addition to one central Frontoffice and MidOffice functionality, Inter Access also installed one central Alfresco DMS system. The four municipalities share this DMS system, which allows them to save on automation costs. As the WebNext MidOffice Suite is designed as a SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) solution and uses open standards, it is a future-proof system which can easily be expanded by the municipality.
"The WebNext Suite provides the four municipalities in the northeast of Friesland with a platform which can take intermunicipal cooperation to the next level," says Han Dieperink, member of general management at Inter Access. "They will benefit from proven technology which is already being used by more than thirty municipalities. And by sharing the software or by purchasing it as a service, the costs of usage and management can be reduced. But the most important advantage is that the municipalities can further improve their services for citizens and that this boosts efficiency as well."
