Hilversum, Leiden, 21 April 2009 – The municipality of Leiden has substantially enhanced their electronic services via Inter Access’ WebNext MidOffice Suite. The enhancements are mainly aimed at municipal taxes.
Residents of the municipality can now consult all their municipal tax assessments on their personal page. In addition, they now have access to WOZ (municipal property tax) valuation reports and to the status of their direct debit. Residents can also access financial transactions and justifications via the internet, and five forms to object to various assessments and taxes have been included in the mid-office. These can be processed fully electronically.
The last enhancement is the option to enter and manage direct debit instructions via the municipality’s website. These are directly sent to the back office for processing, just like the objections. All data are updated daily, including in the counter, so residents always have access to the latest information. All enhancements have been completed in three months and were fully operational at the end of February 2009, because that is when the first WOZ assessments are sent out.
The municipality of Leiden implemented Inter Access’ WebNext MidOffice Suite solution in 2005. This solution allows municipalities to introduce electronic services to residents in stages. Since 2005, Leiden has substantially increased the number of services offered via the mid-office and in 2007 they added the digital tax counter, among many other things.
“These latest additions to the services available via our electronic counter are an important next step in the continuous digitalisation of our processes,” says Marten Aalberts, information adviser at the municipality of Leiden. “These additions enable residents to use municipal services even faster and easier without having to come to the town hall. Our motto is ‘Regel het thuis met de muis' (No need to leave the house, just use your mouse). For the municipality, these additions lead to a further improvement of internal efficiency because many administrative processes are now completely automated from start to finish."
“An effective mid-office provides concrete benefits for municipalities in the area of efficiency, services and process optimisation," says Han Dieperink, Board Member at Inter Access. “The municipality of Leiden underlines this with these additions to the WebNext environment. Leiden distinguishes itself mainly because of the daily update of data, the large number of online transactions and the automatic feeding of forms into the back office.”
