Hilversum, 24 December 2009 – Wormerland and Oostzaan are two municipalities in the Dutch province of North Holland. After a European tender, both municipalities selected Inter Access as supplier of their new ICT infrastructure.
The new environment is based on a combination of open source and closed source solutions based on HP LeftHand servers and storage. Monitoring takes place with NAGIOS open source software. Additionally, the two municipalities selected Citrix’XEN-Server virtualization solution and Microsoft’s Server Based Computing concept (SBC) . Independent consultancy firm ODinfo supported the two municipalities in drawing up this tender.
The municipalities largely based their choice for Inter Access on the fact that the company’s offer was easy to synchronize with their basic principles regarding the new operational organization. The Inter Access concept offers a uniform collaboration environment for approximately two hundred end-users in both municipalities. Due to the SBC concept, every employee is able to log in at every work station.
Moreover, both municipalities wanted to preserve the existing infrastructure as much as possible. Using this as a foundation, Inter Access developed a heterogeneous environment with an optimal combination of closed source and open source solutions. The Inter Access proposal was developed in close cooperation with the suppliers involved, including Microsoft, Citrix and HP.
”This infrastructure seamlessly integrates with our ambition as an employer and as municipality. It enables us to work location independent and thus smarter and more efficient. As a result we now can further improve the services for our citizens”, said Peter Tange, mayor of Wormerland.
“This new infrastructure offers the municipalities of Wormerland and Oostzaan the possibility to introduce a new way of working. This provides employees with flexible workplaces, that offer optimal freedom. Besides this, virtualization and the deployment of open source software provides a very cost-efficient environment”, said Han Dieperink, member of the board of Inter Access. “By selecting Inter Access, the municipalities of Wormerland and Oostzaan reinforce the strong market position the company has among collaborating municipalities in the Netherlands.”
