Thanks to the implementation of BMC Performance Manager Express, the Amsterdam Trade Bank can proactively monitor the ICT elements at the level of the infrastructure and applications in a very user-friendly and management-friendly way.

Proactive management results in increased quality of services at Amsterdam Trade Bank

The Amsterdam Trade Bank focuses on doing business in the Russian Federation and other former CIS states. It is part of the Alfa Bank – the biggest private commercial bank in the Russian Federation – and offers services in the field of business financing, transfers and other financial services. The bank employs approximately 200 people in the Netherlands.

Objective

The Amsterdam Trade Bank indicated that they wished to simplify management by using a standard management tooling solution. The organisation wished to tackle ICT problems proactively instead of reactively by monitoring the infrastructure, applications and databases as well as the website response. The Amsterdam Trade Bank also wished to process escalations and notifications of failures in the ICT components via email.

In addition to the objectives mentioned above, the Amsterdam Trade Bank had a number of specific objectives:

  • Improvement of the availability of business-critical systems;
  • Become less dependent on knowledge in people's "heads";
  • Decreasing ICT management costs (do more with less or the same number of people).

After presentation and demonstration, the analysis and the functional and technical design, BMC Performance Manager Express was implemented. The implementation consisted of installing and configuring the solutions, on-the-job training for the users and delivering user documentation.

Solution

BMC Performance Manager Express monitors the performance and availability of servers, applications and storage and network hardware. Monitoring is done remotely (without an agent) and without software on the elements which are monitored. BMC Performance Manager Express also monitors the performance and availability of web pages. By monitoring both the infrastructure and the web pages, the IT department can quickly observe how problems in the infrastructure influence the end user's experience. The ICT elements listed below have been included in the monitoring by the BMC Performance Manager Express (BMC PME) solution:
Windows 2003 Servers, Iseries AS/400, IBM AIX, File and print servers, HP Routers/switches, ISA firewall, Fortinet firewall, MS Exchange Server, MS SQL Servers.

Advantages

The project was delivered to the Amsterdam Trade Bank to satisfaction and according to expectations. Thanks to the implementation of BMC Performance Manager Express, the Amsterdam Trade Bank can proactively monitor the ICT elements at the level of the infrastructure and applications in a very user-friendly and management-friendly way.

Thanks to the proactive management, the Amsterdam Trade Bank can now deal with disruptions before their internal clients are affected by them, as a result of which they can guarantee the quality of their services for their internal clients.
