Proactive monitoring of infrastructure by management tooling at Ribank

In order to discover ICT problems early by monitoring the infrastructure, applications, databases and website response, Inter Access has implemented a management tooling solution at Ribank. This enables Ribank to proactively monitor the infrastructure.

Ribank N.V. is a finance company which has been active for more than 50 years in the area of credit loans and is specialised, among other things, in the automotive sector. They are among the biggest finance companies in the Netherlands and they are a member of the Vereniging van Financieringsondernemingen (VFN, the Association of Finance Companies). Ribank is part of the French Banque Sofinco which, in turn, is a 100% subsidiary of the Crédit Agricole Group.

Objective

The organisation wished to act proactively instead of reactively. ICT management was set up as a highly reactive organisation. Management tooling offers the opportunity to work more proactively, in other words, to tackle disruptions before they have an actual impact on the business processes.

In addition to this, the objectives of the Ribank were as follows:

  • Process escalations and notifications of the disruptions in the ICT components mentioned above via email;
  • A graphic representation of the status of ICT components;
  • Reports on the quality of the ICT services.
Solution

After presentation and demonstration, the analysis and the functional and technical design, BMC Performance Manager Express was implemented. The implementation consisted of installing and configuring the solutions, on-the-job training for the users and delivering user documentation.

Thanks to the implementation, the Ribank can now proactively monitor the availability and performance of its infrastructure. This infrastructure includes servers, network devices, firewalls, Net Appliance Filers (storage), Oracle Databases and SQL Server Cluster Database and MS Exchange Server.

As a part of this, notification has been set up: (imminent) disruptions are reported in the administrators' mailbox and on their mobile phones. In addition, the web transaction "Request continuous credit" is processed once every so many minutes to provide insight into its performance from the client's perspective.

Why Inter Access?

Inter Access is the only supplier in the Netherlands with the (certified) knowledge and experience to successfully implement BMC Performance Manager Express.

Advantages
  • The implementation of BMC Performance Manager Express has led to the following advantages:
    By proactively monitoring the ICT components 24/7 and sending out notifications of disruptions these are, on average, solved 2 hours sooner;
  • The solution is agentless (meaning: it consists only of a portal).

Onno Baas (system administrator and administrator of the Ribank) is very satisfied with the result and the ease with which he can proactively monitor his complete ICT environment with just one solution, and can adequately respond before an end user experiences problems as a result of downtime.
