Since 1 January 2005, citizens have been able to gain access to government bodies’ electronic services using only one username and password. DigiD (approximate pronunciation: Deeheeday) stands for Digital Identity and is a joint system of and for the government. With DigiD government bodies can verify the identity of citizens and governments who wish to use their electronic services. DigiD is currently working on allocating user names with passwords. It is expected that DigiD will be available for businesses in 2007.
The national report “View on electronic services” states, per transaction, which level of security is sufficient for starting the transaction. From this report, it becomes apparent that for the majority of transactions DigiD provides sufficient certainty about someone’s identity. Within WEB+ Frontoffice a form can be hidden or made public using DigiD. At the same time it is possible to distinguish between a temporary and a permanent DigiD. Moreover, you can indicate per transaction whether the requestor must be an inhabitant of the municipality (to be determined based on the municipal base administration).
